A Montenegro trip often means more than two people in one booking: a family with child seats, friends sharing pickup at Tivat or Podgorica, or a group that wants the Bay of Kotor and the mountains without splitting into two compact cars. A 7-seater or 9-seater minivan keeps everyone together — and the total price, deposit and insurance are shown before you pay.

7-seater minivans — the family size

Seven seats is the usual family choice on the coast: two adults, children in seats, and a couple of bags in the boot. Most of these vans come as automatics, which helps in Kotor and Budva traffic and on the hairpins above the bay. They still fit a normal town parking space — unlike a full-size 9-seater. If you only need the extra seats for part of the week, search 7-seaters first; larger vans cost more to park and to fuel.

Luggage: seven seats is not seven suitcases

This is the complaint we hear most after pickup, so we say it plainly. With every seat occupied, the remaining boot is for small bags — not seven large cases. If seven people each bring full-size luggage, you need a 9-seater, a second car, or an offer that allows a roof box. Count bags before you count seats.

9-seater minivans — groups and airport transfers

Nine seats are for airport runs, wedding parties and friends sharing one booking from Tivat (TIV) or Podgorica (TGD). Check the licence category on the offer — some 9-seaters need more than a standard B licence depending on the vehicle. Parking inside Kotor Old Town and Budva in July is tight; a 9-seater is easier at the airport and at hotel lots than in the walled towns. See all 9-seaters only if you truly need nine places — a 7-seater will not do.

Where people actually drive them

Pickup is usually Tivat Airport or Podgorica Airport, then the coast (Budva, Bar, Ulcinj) or inland toward Durmitor and Žabljak. Summer is the busy season; automatic 9-seaters go first. Paved mountain roads in summer do not require a 4x4 for the main Durmitor circuit — a minivan is enough if you are not aiming for unpaved tracks. For one-way drop-off between airports or into Croatia or Albania, search one-way separately; group vehicles have narrower availability on those routes. one-way car rental in Montenegro · SUV & 4x4 rental · scenic drives in Montenegro · Montenegro car rental.

Frequently Asked Questions

Minivan Rental in Montenegro — 7 & 9 Seat Cars

Usually not. With seven occupants the boot is for small bags. If everyone has a full-size suitcase, book a 9-seater or a second car. Count bags before you count seats — that mismatch is the most common pickup complaint.

It depends on the vehicle, not on the seat filter. Some 9-seaters are fine on a standard B licence; others are not. The licence category is listed on the offer — read it before you pay, and tell us at booking if you only hold a B licence so we can confirm that car.

Yes, especially in the 7-seater class. Automatic 9-seaters exist but are fewer, so search early in July and August. Transmission is shown on every card before you book.

Often yes, if that supplier allows the destination and cross-border cover (including a Green Card where required) is arranged before pickup. Rules are per offer, not per country. Group vehicles can have tighter one-way availability than compact cars, so search the route early and tell us the border when you book.

Yes — child seats are extras on the offer, subject to stock at the branch. A 7-seater with two child seats is the typical family setup on the coast. Add them when you book so the supplier can confirm they will be in the vehicle at pickup.
